The Gopi and her Kanhaiya

Eternal love is always defined by a perfect happy ending. But does it always have to be the case for it to be never-ending? The love story of Radha Krishna is definitive proof that eternal love is not proved so with a happy ending.

Radha Krishna is the only couple from the period when the mythologies happened, who do not have an ‘and’ separating their names. This is because they were considered to be so in love that they were considered one soul and soul mates even if they did not end up together in their individual physical forms. However, it is believed that after they both lost their physical form, they joined each other in the humble abode of the final destination.

After Krishna went away, Radha married someone else. However, the love that she had for Krishna didn't fade even a bit. Because of the love she had for her blue knight, she couldn’t properly adhere to being a good wife to the man she was married to. She too had dedicated herself to Lord Krishna.

Krishna on the other hand, being the supreme power of all Gods, had to marry others in order to save them from mishaps. He did take responsibility for everyone he married, including Rukmini who was an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. However, his heart kept beating for Radha and Radha only.

The love that Radha and Krishna had for each other even beat death, as that was part of their lives where they actually reunited and became one forever. At the time of Radha’s death, she accepted her fate. However, she went on and merged with Krishna, making them one soul.

The popular tale of Radha and Krishna and their eternal love has gone on to become the perfect example of unending and true love for centuries. Love stories ending in marriage are often termed "stories with a happy ending." However, that not being the case with Radha and Krishna, their love was still eternal.

Lord Krishna was the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He was considered to be the supreme power of all Gods. It was said that since he was an avatar of Vishnu, he knew everything and all. Lord Krishna didn't marry Radha. Though he was married and had 16100 wives. This was a saving-those-ladies incident. That is another story. Despite having so many wives, Lord Krishna’s heart belonged to Radha.

Lord Krishna met Radha when he was a young boy who was playing the flute like none other in the woods. That is also where the cow-working-girls or then called gopis, were also present. Hearing the never before heard melodious tune of Krishna’s flute, all the gopis went to him and started dancing to the tune. They were mesmerised. Radha was one of them. Radha’s dance made Lord Krishna’s heart jump, skip a beat and dedicate itself to Radha.

Since then, it grew very evident that Radha and Krishna felt something towards each other. However, it soon turned out to be short-lived. When Krishna had to leave Vrindavan at the age of 12 for further training at his Gurukul, he knew that he would have to leave everything linked to his past to be what he was destined to be, which included Radha as well.
