Kashmir of Rajasthan
There’s a secret that the Indians have hidden from the whole world. India has not one but two Kashmirs on its land. One is the normal Kashmir that the whole world including Pakistan knows about. The other one is a hidden gem residing inside the territory of the state of Rajasthan. The name of this Kashmir is known as Udaipur.
Just like the capital of the state, Jaipur, this city also got its name from the ruler that found it for the first time ever. It surely won’t have remained a mystery of what the name of the founder of Udaipur would be. It was Maharana Udai Singh who founded Udaipur.
In the year 1559, Raja Udai Singh shifted his capital territory of Mewar from Chittorgarh to a more secure place which was Udaipur.
In that Rajputana era, Udai Singh, who was the king of the Mewar region had his capital set up in Chittorgarh. However, that area wasn’t very secure and safe when Akbar besieged or the other kings wanted to conquer it.
It was once that Maharana Udai Singh set his foot out to go out and enjoy the practice of hunting. During that search, he had the destiny of meeting a sage, in the region where Aravalli hills stand proudly today and even in that time.
That sage advised the Maharana to shift and build his castle in the lands of the Aravalli. He also told him that the land and the lush greenery of the Aravalli will be the sole protector of the Maharaja’s castle and his kingdom.
Udai Singh instantly fell in love with the surrounding lush greenery of the hills and initiated the building of his castle on the land of Udaipur.
That is what marked the establishment of Udaipur.
Besides being called the Venice of the eastern India, Udaipur is the city of lakes too. It’s amazing and mesmerising architecture combined well with the lakes makes it a city worth visiting as well as knowing about.
