Mood Swings of Music
For a person exposed only to devotional Gujrati Folklore while growing up, this versatile Musician who works with jazz, rock, indie, and Bollywood, Trivedi, has come a long way in the Indian Musical scene with many prestigious accolades to his name.
Hailing from a traditional Gujrati family, Amit Trivedi was born on 8th April 1979 in Bandra, Mumbai, mystically, where his destiny and love for music would manifest.
At a young age, a fascination with a borrowed electronic musical instrument led a 19-year-old Trivedi composing music and joining the Band Om in his college days to perform local gigs and performances. The band had a touch-and-go recognition that came from Times Music offering to launch their album.
The album did not do well, and eventually, Amit composed for theatre groups, television shows, some Marathi films, dandiya shows, and a few jingles for some well-known brands. He also took up an opportunity with Sony BMG to compose for Indian Idol winners.
Trivedi did not hope for an overnight miracle and a chance in movies, and his prediction was correct.
It took time, but he gained popularity when Anurag Kashyap, searching for something extra-ordinary, met and gave Amit a chance to compose for the famous Romantic-Black-Comedy, Dev.D, on the suggestion of Shilpa Rao, a true friend, and playback singer.
This came to be a defining career move for Trivedi in the film industry, as through Kashyap's recommendation, he landed Aamir, directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, and his music became critically acclaimed. The rest is history, and some is still being made. Among the many known films of his journey include Wake Up Sid (2009), Aisha (2010), and Andhadhun (2018). He has also been conferred appreciation for his singing in the latter.
Amit Trivedi is recognized for his blend of anything and everything and his flexibility with all genres.
He has performed live performances at many events, including a Coke Studio concert, Bacardi NH7 Weekender, and some university festivals.
Among the many awards in his bag include India's highest honor for a music composer, The National Film Award for Best Music, the R.D Burman Award conferred by Filmfare Magazine, and Best Director of the Year at the Bollywood Film Journalists Awards (BFJA) in 2019.
Trivedi is continuously creating a space where commercial music and independent music come into amalgamation with his distinct techniques.
