Long back a bunch of people had the urge to know interesting facts about the world. This desire made them start a magazine called National Geographic, which later was called Nat Geo. On the month of October of the year 1888, this magazine was published in the USA. This magazine was a hit and in no time it became popular across the world. For more than 100 years the magazine has quenched the thirst of not only inquisitive minds but also ignorant minds.

To acknowledge the efforts that go into all the research, we celebrate National Geographic Day on the 27th of January every year. Back then Nat Geo was a basic scholarly journal with no photographs. The very first edition was published in October 1888. But with time it included photographic content. The photographs are rare and breathtaking. The first edition with a cover photo was published in January 1905. Its glossy textured page with the yellow rectangular frame shape on the cover page makes it all the more distinctive. The magazine has content for all, which makes it one-of-a-kind educational content magazine. Thus, the impact that it has made deserves celebration.

This National Geographic magazine was published with a view to educate and illuminate people about the world we live in. It has topics covering wildlife, environment, travel, science, and even our history and culture bringing interesting and unique stories of our world. Nat Geo has grown with the digital age. Now there are various other sources like their website, Nat Geo TV channel, and several youtube videos that bring us all the information at our fingertips. There is something for every age.

Nat Geo is funded by non-profit organisations. It supports a vast group of diverse international changemakers who use their power of science and exploration to find out solutions to today's challenges and also make people aware of the future. These explorers bring new innovations that help us connect to our past, and present and find tools to make our future better. From finding about rare species of animals to knowledge about our history, they take pains to make it accessible for us. Through their research and analysis, they even discovered that our genome can be helpful to strengthen our culture and language, they are helping people become climate resilient too. The magazine has touched many lives and is growing to its fullest.

The magazine, therefore, deserves a day to celebrate its popularity and glory over years. People celebrate a day when they are happy about any event that took place on that particular day, they do something special as an honour for the day. What better to be a part of it than by celebrating it? We can celebrate by taking a glance through the old editions of the magazine, a physical copy, or online will do. The photographs in the magazine are just admirable, we can share them as well. Also, we can amaze our friends and family by awakening our inner photographer and capturing a few nice shots. Nothing better than teaching our future generation to admire and appreciate small things and be thankful for the infinite things that our world provides us with. We can also take some time to research on topics that were intriguing to us.

Celebrating National Geographic Day on the 27th of January is gifting a token of appreciation to all the people who are working hard behind the scenes. They collate and present the facts, that in turn teach us to be more responsible for our actions and also show us ways by which we can take baby steps to make our world more livable.
