On 28 February 1928, a distinguished physicist, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, discovered the phenomena of scattering of photons, now known as the Raman Effect. This extraordinary discovery led him to earn the Nobel prize in 1930, which was also India’s first Nobel prize in science.

Later, in 1986, the Indian government approved the request from the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) and declared February 28 as National Science Day.

As a result, India celebrated its first National Science Day on 28 February 1987. This day celebrates and appreciates the contributions of scientists and technologists to the growth of this country.

How Does National Science Day Help To Educate Students?

The day is marked to promote science education among students and adults. Events are held at various places in India to celebrate this occasion. Schools, colleges, and other institutions conduct exhibitions, quiz competitions, or practicals related to science subjects like physics, chemistry, biology, etc.

In addition to these celebrations that schools and colleges organize, there may also be some activities which can be done by individuals as well as making model rockets out of paper clips, visiting museums where you can learn about different topics such as musical instruments used during ancient times, or even going out on field trips where you get an opportunity to interact with nature so that you can discover new things about it.

Knowing about basic sciences, innovation, and technology is important, as these are all crucial skills that you can use in your career. Basic science is the study of the physical world, including chemistry, physics, biology, and earth science. It's a broad field that covers everything from basic research to applied research to product development. The goal of basic science is understanding how things around us — devices, objects, gadgets, systems — work so we can improve our lives by studying them more closely or making things better with new technologies.

Science is the analytical and hypothetical result of different creative ideas and innovations. Innovation can be understood as the ability to create new things or ideas which improve people's lives through technology; this includes designing products like cars or clothing as well as creating new ways of doing business, such as developing new medicines.

Innovation also includes keeping up with changing times by being innovative yourself. In addition, it encourages students to pursue science, especially in rural areas where there is a lack of such opportunities at present and many still do not know what science is or why it is important.

Hence, the government runs various welfare programs on the state as well as national levels to educate people in rural areas and to spread awareness of the importance of science. In addition, many schools, colleges, and local trainers volunteer to complete their part for the same cause.

We should appreciate the importance of science in our lives and its role in the creation of modern society. It is important to remember that without science, we could never be where we are today. National Science Day is one way we can celebrate this day and encourage kids everywhere to develop scientific curiosity!
