Story of Nala & Damayanti - Part 03

Damayanti spent quite a few years trying to find her the whereabouts of husband Nala, but to no avail. She then finally hit upon an ingenious idea to lure him out of his hiding. Read on to know what exactly happened...

<p>Meanwhile, Damayanti was frantic, not being able to find Nala anywhere. She knew why he had done what he had done, but still was irritated by his actions. However, she was very much keen on trying to find her husband. </p><p><br></p><p>Wandering alone she first met with and served a rishi at his ashram for sometime followed by making herself useful in the court of the king of Chedi.</p><p>There she, in disguise, grew close to the princess, whom she asked for a favour in return for all the services she rendered - to help her find the whereabouts of her husband. There she found information about a man matching the qualities of her husband, but not his looks. </p><p><br></p><p>Keen on finding out more, she hatched a plan.</p><p><br></p><p>She went back to her father and told him everything, and asked him organize a swayamvara, to bait Nala to come out of his hiding.</p><p><br></p><p>Many mighty kings were invited to the swayamvara, including king Rituparna, who came along with his dwarf attendant, Vahuka.</p><p><br></p><p>At the swayamvara, she announced that she would marry only that person who impressed her the most with an amazing skill that the person possessed.</p><p><br></p><p>There, Vahuka helped the king by cooking an elaborate meal for the princess. One bite into it, Damayanti knew that she had found her husband, as Nala was a known masterchef, having written the first ever cookbook 'Pakadarpanam'. </p><p><br></p><p>The couple was this reunited again.
