Sweetheart- just what he calls or something you are?
Times in which we find ourselves baffling between the mind and heart’s tug of war are inestimable. No matter how many shipwrecks come in our blathered voyage, we end up chasing our emotionally foolish heart, despite our mind and its analytical, rational presuming. There’s always a tender contentment branching throughout our body when we follow our heart.
Now, imagine a day when your heart stops beating, mute and completely numb. Your heart can’t make a room for any of your close ones, because cardiovascular diseases have possessed it as their new digs at a motel.
To avert such a catastrophe, World Heart Federation has reserved September 29 as the romantic day to devote to our delicate hearts, tailored to nourish it and be concerned about our deleterious lifestyle.
World Heart Day is celebrated worldwide with the sole purpose of protecting our hearts from the invasion of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). According to an estimation, about 17 million people bite the dust due to the strokes of CVD every year, rather than cancer or malaria. Apart from stroke, there is the thumping of heart attack or the fragile organ collapsing totally. If the researchers were like our mothers, they would have blamed our smartphones for this. But, no! The possible reasons are stated to be the ruinous customs we have charted for ourselves; lack of exercise and junk we dump in our bodies like the water of Ganga.
The day was first commemorated in 1999 by World Heart Federation, collaborating with World Health Organisation. World Health Federation is a non-governmental organisation set up in Geneva, as the international society for cardiology in 1972. The idea was shared by Antoni Bayes de Luna, who was seated as the former president of the World Health Federation. It wasn’t September 29 from the beginning. The last week of September was chosen for the celebration initially. With the commitment and determination of world leaders to the cause, the day was announced to be observed on September 29.
To spread awareness about CVD, various sports, games, motivational talks and concerts are arranged by the governmental and non-governmental federations. This particular day calls for workout sessions, the fitness regime we sacrifice to get some extra hours of sleep. Marathon, long walks are also a part of this regime. Apart from exercises, the theme asks to quit smoking, avoid liquor consumptions, and eat healthy portions. It’s a must to get your cholesterol and blood pressure checked without the excuse of our professions keeping us busy.
More and more nations adding value to this day has resulted in its massive success. About 90 countries have taken it as an international observe tradition. Information on CVD is shared via podcasts, TED Talks, posters, etc. throughout the world. Medical societies host meetings and gatherings regarding cardiovascular disease and its remedies. When the world is being cautious and careful of its citizens, it’s our responsibility to preserve this day, to seek the answer of, “Toh Batao, kya hai tumhare dil ka haal?”
Let us pledge to nourish our hearts so that it never stops beating for your special someone. Kyuki dil ka khayal sirf Saffola nahi rakhega.
