The biggest city : Rakhigarhi

The renowned Indus Valley Civilisation and its five major cities were the first of its kind to provide the world with mud and stone bricks. Out of those five major cities, Rakhigarhi being one of them, was the industrial area of the Indus Valley Civilisation.

Rakhigarhi was the city located beside the tributary of Saraswati river, the Drishadvati river. Not only was this city the industrial town of the whole civilisation, Rakhigarhi was also the biggest city out of the five.

This discovery of the city being the biggest of all was made recently. Before this, the city that was called the mound of the dead, i.e. Mohenjo-Daro was considered to be the biggest of them all.

Rakhigarhi was a city of wonders! It wasn’t just a part of the civilisation that introduced bricks and an urban system of working with structured buildings. It was also the city to introduce homogeneity to the world. There were a lot of weapons, tools, seals, stones, gemstones and other things that were found and discovered as a part of the excavation of the city.

The city doesn’t end up being mysterious and wondrous here. As the excavation was being conducted, it was also revealed that all the cities were mapped out and there were blueprints made of even the utilities that were provided to the people.

It was as if they were already as advanced in some things back then as compared to what we have achieved today. Where no one could even imagine the systems being so good and so organised in the earlier times, there were maps of where the public bath or perhaps the market was going to be situated before all of it was made using stones and bricks. Here, comes the wonder if they were smarter and faster in developing things or we’re the slower ones in today’s time.

Rakhigarhi, the biggest town of the old times, has come out alive once again recently. The excavation led to a 4500 year old skeleton being found giving out proofs of ancient legacies dating back to the Indus Valley civilisation.

This recent discovery and the DNA received from the skeleton of the woman that was found also revealed that the people of the town could have definitely survived in today’s world with the same conditions that we live in with.

The discovery of Rakhigarhi is considered to be a part of the beginning in unfurling the history of how life persisted in the earlier times, i.e. in the Indus Valley civilisation to be specific.
