The Undiscovered Urban Center

The Indus Valley civilisation was a remarkable civilisation that the world had seen. It had a total of 700 sites out of which only five were considered the major ones in terms of residency as well as industrialisation. Being the last of the major five cities of the Indus Valley Civilisation, Ganeriwala was situated between Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro.

Ghaggar-Hakra, sounds like the name of a dish. However, it is far from that. Ghaggar-Hakra is the name of the river beside which the town of Ganeriwala was situated. However, the river is not the same as before. It has dried up and there lies only a dried-up river bed besides the ruins of Ganeriwala that are yet to be excavated.

Only the location of Ganeriwala has been identified until now. It has secrets and mysteries that are yet to be discovered and identified. Situated on an area of 80 hectares - making it the fourth largest site out of the five - those 80 hectares have a lot to say, just waiting to be transposed from the features of the land and on to the pages of history.

A simple seal with a person sitting cross legged as if sitting in a yoga position has been the only significant find from the city. That seal connects the town to the other towns such as Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro. That seal is the only thing besides the location of the site, that connects the town to the other sites of the civilisation.

Even before the site was rediscovered and is yet to be explored again, its name has been historically written down among the other four cities of the civilisation. This being the case with the fifth city of Ganeriwala already, this city is surely going to be one of the unearthed diamonds of the entire civilisation.
