Did you know that the reason India became united was because of the first speech ever given in Independence India by Dr. Jawaharlal Nehru? That speech was known as the Tryst with Destiny. That was one of the historical speeches that was very significant in creation of India as a united country along with many others around and about the world. Speeches themselves play a significant role in the history of the world along with a lot of other things. Hence, the celebration of speeches and the World Speech Day is privilege that the world has.

There are many and all kinds of speeches that are given out by people around the world. Some may be as influential as the Tryst with Destiny, some might be life changing such as the speech of Rohan’s father in the movie Student of the Year and some may just be informational like a college students’ graduation speech. However, every speech does have some or the other motive behind it. There will be no one giving out a speech just because they thought of a topic to talk about and neither would anyone want to hear someone give a speech if its not a topic of interest for them.

Speeches surely are influential and have the power to advance and promote change. It is with speeches only that great revolutions, changes and revolts have begun. Hence, to celebrate the power of words and the power of influence speeches have, World Speech Day is celebrated every year on the 15th of March.

The people who give speeches have the power to shape societies and minds altogether. But not only them but the people who write speeches have the same powers. Speeches enable share ideas, educate others, give inspiration and share goals. This day dedicated to speeches is a way for doing all of the mentioned things but on a much larger level of going global. A lot of speeches have impacted a lot of communities in the past, still continue to do and will keep on doing so as well. Words do have that power. Imagine them getting a voice for themselves, words can do wonders.

The World Speech Day is also an organisation which was first launched in June 2014 by Simon Gibson. He worked as a freelances and speechwriter for some high profile companies back then and hence for the work he had done previously, for it to not get lost once he wrote a speech, he initiated the creation of this holiday.

Gibson believed that once the speeches were written or spoken, they only helped the ones who read them or heard them. However, they could help more people than that if they were preserved and not just archived instantly. The impact could not just be spontaneous but profound. In order to honour that, Gibson introduced World Speech Day. He further believed that this day would help explore new solutions and better ideas.

World Speech Day is celebrated all over the world by more than 100 nations and thousands of individuals who, like Gibson, aspire to inspire others and make the world a better place through their speeches
