India is a country known for its rich culture and one of a kind language. Another unique thing about the country is the dynamic and different days they celebrate. There are no parameters wherein the country does not look forward to promoting their unity and secularism. One such way is their celebration of ‘World Hindi Day’.
Celebrated every year in January
It is a marvel that the language spoken in just one country all around the world has reached a stage where it isn't just celebrated nationally but has been given a whole day to itself globally.
World Hindi day is celebrated on 10th January every year. It is given a huge significance in the country. For the same significance, there is another ‘National Hindi Day’ that is also celebrated in the country on 14th September.
The major reason for the day to be celebrated is clearly there in the name. Hindi is a language that is spoken by 260 million people. It is also the first language that is fourth most-spoken amongst all the languages there are in the world. Just as any other language, Hindi is also one that deserves commendation, despite being spoken in very few countries.
In order to raise the usage of Hindi as the first language as well as make the native of the countries appreciate their mother tongue, Hindi Diwas are given a significant importance in terms of celebrations.
Praising Hindi as a language is considered a larger reason for celebrating National Hindi Day. The reason still validates for celebrating the language globally, however, not as much as for the former.
World Hindi Day is celebrated on 10th January each year to commemorate the first World Hindi Conference to ever take place back in 1975. The conference was held in Nagpur. Besides marking the date of the first conference ever held for Hindi as a language, it was decided in a conference that took place later in June, 2005, which was a follow up of the first one, that January 10 would be celebrated as World Hindi Day every year from the forthcoming years.
Accordingly, during the tenure of Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister, World Hindi Day was celebrated first in 2006 on January 10th as it was decided in the conference held in the previous year of that.
Both the days devoted to celebrating Hindi around the world as well as nationally, have the same aim; to promote Hindi as a language. It is remarkable to know that even though this language is spoken very less as compared to the other major languages, it still is the fourth highest spoken first language all across. It is not only a very proud thing for all Indians but actually does promote Hindi as a language and a mother tongue.
