Born on 15th March 1976

Born on the 15th of March 1976 to a family with giants like Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, Abhay Deol was naturally pushed to cinema from a young age. His plunge into cinema - as he calls it, began at the age of 18, would be full of romantic comedies - from Socha na Tha, Ahista Ahista, to Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Limited would be relatively successful, but nothing to get him noticed on the big stage.

What did get him noticed was when he shifted from romance to black comedy and thrillers. His thriller Manorama, Six Feet Under would win many best film awards, and he would be awarded as the Best Actor as well. From then on, Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye and Aisha would be renowned for their comedy and drama, while neo-noir themes like Dev.D would land him praise for pulling off such an eccentric role - the idea of a modern day Devdas with different visual styles, experimental soundtrack and narrative.

His biggest break would come in the comedy - drama, Zindagi na Milegi Dobara, where he would star alongside Hritik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Kochein - and this film would become one of the highest grossing worldwide films for Bollywood.

Deol’s foray into thrillers continues with films like Shanghai and Chakravyuh, serving as roles of police informant, and an IAS officer. While both were moderately good hits, he still continues on with new, experimental styles. For this he has gained much acclaim - his styles aren’t copies of others, they represent complex characters which he almost harmlessly pulls off.

After a short career in Bollywood, he would also be involved in the world of online streaming services - with Chopsticks on Netflix, and JL50 on Sony Liv, thrillers, being the most memorable ones recently. He has received awards, and he has received his share of critique - but scantily can one a person to play a more complex character.
