May Day: The International day of Labour and Solidarity
When industrialization was still nascent and workplaces were still being organized, a shift happened. Labour was no longer determined by the necessity or urgency of a chore. Instead, the modern clock governed the workplace. People were no longer free to work as and when they pleased, but were required to clock in the hours decided by their supervisor. Let's take a look at how the most dismal conditions led to the eight-hour workday movement, that ultimately resulted in the May Day.
