जिसने भारतीय राजनीति को बदल कर रख दिया

यह कोई पहली बार नहीं था। 1953 में भी एक योग का गठन हुआ था जिसकी अगुवाई काका कालेलकर के हाथों में थी। कालेलकर आयोग ने दो साल बाद 1955 में रिपोर्ट सौंपी जिसमें भारत में 2399 पिछड़ी जातियाँ/समुदाय चिन्हित की, जिनमें भी 837 अत्यंत पिछड़ी जातियाँ मानी गईं। लेकिन, कालेलकर आयोग असफल रहा। क्योंकि, ऐसे तर्क आए कि इनमें वे ही जातियाँ शामिल की गईं जो हिन्दू धर्म से सम्बंधित थीं। इस तरह कालेलकर रिपोर्ट नकार दी गई।

राजस्थान का ‘जालियाँवाला बाग़’ हत्याकांड, जब 1500 बेक़सूर लोग मारे गए

सन् 1910 तक आते-आते भीलों ने अंग्रेजों के सामने तैंतीस मांगे रखी। जिनमें मुख्य रूप से अंग्रेजों और रजवाड़ों द्वारा करवाई जा रही बंधुआ मज़दूरी और लगान से जुड़ी मांगे थी। अंग्रेजों के अलावा वहाँ के स्थानीय ज़मींदार, सामंत भी इनका शोषण करने में पीछे नहीं थे। इसी के विरोध में गोविन्द दुरु ने भगत आन्दोलन शुरू किया था।

असम राष्ट्रपति शासन में था। हालात नाज़ुक थे। इंदिरा गांधी ने असम के कुछ दौरे किए और राज्य में विधानसभा चुनाव करवाने के आदेश दे दिए। तब आसु ( आल इंडिया असम स्टूडेंट्स यूनियन ) और आमसु ( आल असम माइनोरिटी स्टूडेंट्स यूनियन ) एक दुसरे के ख़िलाफ़ हो गए। एक चाहता था चुनाव नहीं हो और दूसरा कहता कि चुनाव होने चाहिए। दोनों में हिंसक झड़प भी हुई। यह 1979 की बात थी।
